Delirium Tremens is a wonderful beer from one of my favourite bars in the world, Delirium Cafe. According to Wikipedia, Delirium Tremens is Latin for “shaking frenzy”, also referred to as The DTs, “the horrors” or “the shakes”. I first tried this whilst at the Delirium Cafe in Brussels which boasts a monstrous 2000 beers available and over 20 on tap! So many that I was a little overwhelmed and felt out of my depth, although the great staff soon set me on the right path.

It is exceptionally easy to drink and is very tasty for a beer that weighs in at 8.5% but should not be taken lightly as it has caught me out on many occasions.  I love that Delirium Tremens is becoming increasingly more available countrywide in the UK in both my favourite pubs and supermarkets. If you see their trademark Pink Elephant I thoroughly suggest you buy at least one glass or bottle.

“Colour and sight: pale blond, the fine and regular effervesce ensures a fine and stable head. Scent: Slightly malty, a nice touch of alcohol, spicy. Flavour: Feels like the sound shot of alcohol is igniting the mouth. In reality the tongue and palate are warmed. The taste is characterized by its roundness. The aftertaste is strong, long-lasting and dry bitter. ” (
